Cas

T he guys catch me up on how they realized it wasn’t my body in the cemetery. I can’t imagine how they must have felt discovering that body. That poor girl. What they described had been done to her. It isn’t fair. Even worse is the fact that whoever it is will never be identified. Her family, if she has any, won’t know.

What did she endure before her last days? Again, I feel unworthy and guilty for making it out, but I plan on keeping my promise to myself. I’m taking Francesco down. I’m not sure how, but I’m determined.

They told me about the funeral and how everyone in Buffalo City thinks I’m dead. It’s an odd feeling knowing that. I underestimated how they felt about me. The last thing I expected was for them to come and rescue me.

Ash tells me about Raz and Giovanni, how basically had it not been for them and Denz they wouldn’t have known how to find me. He also told me about Beatrice showing them a video of me being tortured. Raz getting taken by Francesco and beaten. And how Kel dropped Beatrice somewhere to buy them time.

Knowing the trouble they went through weighs on my conscience. Madz. I hope she’s okay. If Raz and Giovanni couldn’t get her out after they helped save me… I can’t even think about it.

We also discussed for a short while, if it’s weird that they still call me Cas. I told them I prefer it. Reign is gone, and I don’t even know who she is anymore.

An hour later, Emery sets our plates down in front of us. There is steak, potatoes, and veggies on each of them. It looks delicious. But my appetite hasn’t fully returned and I’m not sure when it will.

I push away from the island. “Be right back.” I head downstairs to the wine cellar. I’m more of a whiskey or vodka and soda kind of girl, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Kel only keeps wine here. I miss him and hope he’s okay. I wonder why he left us here and went back. AJ mentioned he was going to check on his grandma and sister, which means he’s likely going to take them somewhere safe. But the way AJ said it sounded like that was just another thing he was going to do while he was there.

He’s probably working on getting us fake names, I.Ds, and passports.

I flip the light switch on and walk down the steps. My bare feet sink into the lush white carpet. Memories that I’m not ready for return as I look at the room with the pool table in the middle of it.

High-pitched ringing vibrates in my eardrums. The room sways and I grab onto the wall to keep myself from falling. It was the day after I had been rescued. Dad came into the room with a group of men. I was chained to the bed and the drugs in my system had me thinking I had finally died.
